It’s Father’s Day tomorrow here in the UK and in the US (and maybe other places as well?) so today’s snippet is all about fatherhood. It’s taken from Alpaca My Bags, my story in the Hot Summer Nights charity m/m anthology due out on June 20th (and now available to pre-order..

Here, new grandad Scott, on holiday with his daughter and her family, finds himself having to explain to her that he’s got a date for tonight:

Katie’s pretty face screwed up. “So you met him this afternoon? Dad…You’ve only just broken up with Calvin. Don’t you think you should leave it a while before you start seeing someone else? And this guy doesn’t even live near you. You really want to get into a long distance relationship? That’s a lot of commitment for a man you’ve only just met.”

I’m not a prude. I was quite happy for Katie and Aaron to share the spare bedroom in my flat even before they were married. But I still couldn’t quite bring myself to tell my daughter, rosy with the glow of new motherhood, that I wasn’t planning to have a relationship with Ryan, and I was equally sure he had no such plans for me.

It’s fine, I just fancy a shag was a sentence I could see myself saying to her precisely never.
