Rainbow Snippets wishes you a happy Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day tomorrow here in the UK and in the US (and maybe other places as well?) so today’s snippet is all about fatherhood. It’s taken from Alpaca My Bags, my story in the Hot Summer Nights charity m/m anthology due out on June 20th (and now available to pre-order..

Here, new grandad Scott, on holiday with his daughter and her family, finds himself having to explain to her that he’s got a date for tonight:

Katie’s pretty face screwed up. “So you met him this afternoon? Dad…You’ve only just broken up with Calvin. Don’t you think you should leave it a while before you start seeing someone else? And this guy doesn’t even live near you. You really want to get into a long distance relationship? That’s a lot of commitment for a man you’ve only just met.”

I’m not a prude. I was quite happy for Katie and Aaron to share the spare bedroom in my flat even before they were married. But I still couldn’t quite bring myself to tell my daughter, rosy with the glow of new motherhood, that I wasn’t planning to have a relationship with Ryan, and I was equally sure he had no such plans for me.

It’s fine, I just fancy a shag was a sentence I could see myself saying to her precisely never.

Silver fox Scott Riley is holidaying on the Isle of Wight with his newborn granddaughter and her parents following the breakup of his relationship. A bit of fun in the sun with rugged alpaca farmer, Ryan, could be just what the doctor ordered. But when both men realise this holiday fling could be the start of something more, they’ll need to work hard to counter Scott’s family’s misgivings—not to mention their own.

Hot Summer Nights is a steamy gay romance charity anthology that will only be available for three months, between 20 June and 20 September 2019. About jlmerrow

JL Merrow is that rare beast, an English person who refuses to drink tea. She read Natural Sciences at Cambridge, where she learned many things, chief amongst which was that she never wanted to see the inside of a lab ever again. Her one regret is that she never mastered the ability of punting one-handed whilst holding a glass of champagne. She writes across genres, with a preference for contemporary gay romance and the paranormal, and is frequently accused of humour. Find JL Merrow online at: www.jlmerrow.com

  1. LOL. Perhaps she’ll read it between the lines? ❤️

  2. Ouch, such a painful realization…I have a feeling he’s mistaken, though. (wry grin)

Haha, it’s usually the other way around, the daughter not wanting to tell the father what she’s up to. I wonder if she’ll guess.

  4. jlgfellers says:

We never want to know about our parents’ sex lives, but if he’s open-minded his daughter probably is as well, so…

  5. janadenardo says:

    hahaha perfect last line
