Today’s snippet comes once again from Relief Valve, my second Plumber’s Mate Mystery, which will be out in 2nd edition on 5th February – only 2 days now!
Last week, our narrator, slightly-psychic plumber Tom Paretski, met Morgan Everton, who heads a local writers’ group. This week, Tom’s gone undercover to the writer’s group to try and suss out if any of the members was responsible for his sister’s poisoning – and Tom’s just been challenged to tell them what he writes:
“Well, it’s about this plumber, see,” I began. They always said you should write what you know, didn’t they? So that probably applied to making up stuff on the spur of the moment. “He shows up at this bloke’s house to fix the washer, and of course, the bloke’s not got any clean clothes because his washer’s kaput, so he’s just wearing a tea towel . . .” Too late, I realised I was reproducing the plot of one of Darren’s pornos. The Plumber Always Comes Twice, if I recalled correctly.

Relief Valve – #2 in the Plumber’s Mate Mystery series
If you dig up the past, be prepared for some dirt to stick.
The relationship between Tom Paretski, a cheeky plumber with a gift for finding hidden things, and PI Phil Morrison may only be a few weeks old, but already it’s under attack. Tom’s friends and family are convinced the former bully isn’t good enough for him, and they’re not shy about saying so.
Then Tom’s prickly older sister, Cherry, is poisoned at her own engagement party. Tom’s left reeling and not knowing who to suspect. Could it be her new fiancé, Gregory, a cathedral canon with an unfortunate manner and a taste for taxidermy? Or someone from her old writers’ circle, which she left after a row? Or could the attack be connected to her work as a barrister? Meanwhile, Tom’s honorary auntie’s left him a gag gift from beyond the grave that could be more significant than anyone knows.
Phil’s fighting against the clock to solve the case before somebody ends up dead. And with the poisoner hiding a dark secret, Phil’s terrified Tom could have been the target all along.

Oh dear, but to recognize it they would have had to watch it 😀
And admit to it! 😉
Bhhahhahhahhha. #Winner. And I think I’ve seen this porn, too 😄
The old plots are always the best, aren’t they? 😉
Hahaha…well, if any of them recognized the plot, they wouldn’t be able to call him out on it anyway! ❤
Not this lot, for sure! 😉
Goodness! I hope no one asks him to read an excerpt 😀
Tragically, he’s left his manuscript at home.
Honest. 😉
Is there a window cleaner in it somewhere? This made me laugh!
You’re thinking of the sequel, “Three Lads and a Ladder”. ;P
LOL! I love this bit of humor mixed in this intense situation! Great snippet!
