I have another super-quick read out today. This one is Blazing June, a lesbian short which also appears in the Lesbian Cops anthology and is now available for the first time as a standalone ebook. Here’s a little snippet from the start:
It’s been a proper scorcher for this early in June, and the air’s thick with pollen as they break into Mrs MacReady’s. I feel like a spare part, hovering by the front door with its tell-tale pint of semi-skimmed sitting in a little puddle of dried-up spilled milk. If only I’d been here earlier to see it.
“Is Mrs Mac going to prison?” Billy asks.
“No, love!” I pick him up, though he’s getting too big for that really.
Don’t forget to check out the rainbow snippets Facebook group for more little excerpts from a whole host of talented authors.
Blazing June (short story)
Struggling single mum Carla does her best to look after her elderly neighbour, but has to call the police to help when Mrs MacReady suffers a fall and she can’t get in to help. A good deed brings its own reward when one of the constables who turns up is the beautiful, red-haired Ellen.
Ellen cuts her hand breaking into the flat to rescue the old lady, and as Carla tends the wound, she falls half in love with the golden stranger. She doesn’t expect to ever see her again—but Ellen might just surprise her.
