WightMischief_FBbanner_DSPIt’s the final day of the Wight Mischief Blog Tour, and I’m over at the Dreamspinner Press blog talking about–for a change–OTHER books set on the Isle of Wight!

I hope you’ll drop by and leave a comment to enter the $10 Dreamspinner gift certificate giveaway. Good luck! 😀

Wight Mischief

wight_mischief_200_300A ghost of a chance at love.

Personal trainer Will Golding has been looking forward to a getaway with his best friend, Baz, a journalist researching a book on ghosts. But on the first day of their camping trip on the Isle of Wight, Will takes a walk on a secluded beach and spies a beautiful young man skinny-dipping by moonlight.  Ethereally pale, he’s too perfect to be real—or is he?

Lonely author Marcus Devereux is just as entranced by the tall athlete he encounters on the beach, but he’s spent the years since his parents’ violent death building a wall around his heart, and the thought of letting Will scale it is terrifying. Marcus’s albinism gives him his otherworldly appearance and leaves him reluctant to go out in daylight, his reclusiveness encouraged by his guardian—who warns him to stay away from Will and Baz.

The attraction between Will and Marcus can’t be denied—but neither can the danger of the secrets haunting Marcus’s past, as one “accident” after another strikes Will and Baz. If they don’t watch their step, they could end up added to the island’s ghostly population.

Rainbow Snippets is feeling steamy

And by steamy I mean in the mood for steampunk, that is; I do hope you weren’t misled into expecting something else. 😉

This week’s snippet is taken from my short f/f  steampunk story London Lark, due out in the Upstaged Anthology featuring queer women in the performing arts on July 15, 2018.

For those who missed my previous snippets from this story, please note that Miss Pandora is an automaton, and Hodgkins, our narrator, is NOT a lad! 😉

Weeks it was I worked on her—I don’t say all the time, mind, as we’d plenty of other calls on us. There’s always something as wants fixing. Mechanical housemaids, sweeps’ boys, even a false nose for some syphilitic toff what’d got stuck on sneezing. We always tells ’em they ain’t designed for so much snuff, but what toff wants to listen to a tinkerer and his lad telling him to curb his pleasures?

Miss Pandora, though, she was my labour of love, and I was at her side all the hours I could spare.

Wight Mischief is out today

WightMischief_FBbanner_DSP

Hurrah! It’s release day for Wight Mischief, my romantic suspense novel set on my beloved Isle of Wight and first published by Samhain. This edition has been completely re-edited and generally given a wash and brush-up, but remains substantially the same story as the first edition.

Today on the Wight Mischief blog tour, I’m a guest over at The Novel Approach, where I’ll be talking about Fantasy Islands: why islands are so popular as fictional locations.

I hope you’ll drop by and leave a comment to enter the $10 Dreamspinner gift certificate giveaway – and I hope you’ll forgive me being a little slower than usual to answer comments, as with stunning good timing, I’m away at a steampunk weekend in Morecambe. 🙂

Rainbow Snippets is so late this week it’s next week already

Whoops! More than a little late posting this weekend – in fact, it’s only still the weekend here courtesy of the May bank holiday today. I blame the heat. 🙂

Today’s snippet is taken from Wight Mischief, which is due out in 2nd edition on Friday. Here, our hero Will is with his friend Baz, on their way to Will’s first (official) meeting with the other MC, Marcus:

“You know, it’d only take half an hour to walk there. Less, probably,” Will said as he drove the short distance from the campsite to Blackbridge Redoubt.

“Walk there?” Baz’s eyebrows were practically achieving liftoff. “What, you want us to turn up for the interview like a couple of itinerant tramps? I don’t think so.”

“Oh, so it’s a matter of looking professional, is it? Funny that. Looks a lot like laziness from where I’m sitting. Which, in case you’d forgotten, is behind the wheel of my old Fiat Panda, or as you once called it, the car that progress forgot.”

“Did I? I hope I also mentioned that style and taste have a bit of a dodgy memory where it’s concerned as well.

Rainbow Snippets has caught Wedding Fever

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you probably know there’s a bit of a do going on today in Windsor. Congratulations to the royal couple – and to all those other couples who’ve been planning their May wedding for ages, only to have Harry and Meghan sneak in and steal their thunder! 😉

So I thought it’d be appropriate to have a wedding-themed snippet today. This is from the beginning of Lock Nut, #5 in the Plumber’s Mate Mystery Series:

It all started at the wedding. It wasn’t a bad one, as weddings go. The weather, for a miracle, stayed fair, everyone was dressed up to the nines—even me, thanks to some not-so-gentle nudging from Phil; my sister, Cherry; and my best mate Gary that had started to feel a lot like an intervention by the time they were done—and the service went off without a hitch (other than the intended one, that was). Some thoughtless git left his mobile phone on and it rang loudly in the middle of the vows, but hey, I had a lot on my mind that day.

It wasn’t just my only sister finally getting spliced at the tender age of forty. I was having a few dad issues as well, seeing as both of ’em—that’s the one that brought me up, and the biological one—had turned up in St. Leonards for the occasion, and don’t think that wasn’t weird. I wasn’t sure how Mum felt about having her husband and her ex-bit-on-the-side in the same room, but there had been a definite whiff of sherry on her breath when she’d kissed me hello.

And psst! The Lock Nut Blog Tour giveaway is still open until midnight tonight (that’s Eastern time, May 19th)

LockNut_500x750[4]Still waters run deadly.

Tom Paretski, plumber with a talent for finding hidden things, and his private investigator fiancé Phil Morrison have been hired to locate a runaway husband, Jonathan Parrot. The job seems simple enough—until their quarry turns up dead in a canal, and a photofit of Tom’s face is splashed all over the news, making him chief suspect.

The widow, petite ex–porn star Lilah Lovett, is convinced her husband was killed by his gay lover, but Tom and Phil aren’t so sure. Worried they may have precipitated Jonathan’s death, they’re determined to find the real killer. But with a web of incestuous ties linking the suspects, it’s hard to know who to trust. Especially when a second victim dies a gruesome death.

Meanwhile, with their wedding looming and them sharing a house now, Tom’s worried it may all be too much, too fast. The last thing he needs are the mixed messages Phil seems to be sending out. They’ll need to get back on the same track if they want to make it to their honeymoon together—and alive.
